Course Code: O117
This eight week course will teach you how to use oils in a more traditional method. You will learn how to prepare the canvas with a ground and how to sketch using oils. You will gain a deeper understanding of tone by learning how to paint in grisaille as a base for later glazing work.
Glazing is a very economical way of painting and gives the colours a deeper hue and vibrancy than can’t be achieved with other methods of application. It is a process that builds up over time so allows you to work on a few pieces at once. This is a great way to build a body of work for an exhibition.
On completion of this course you will know how to mix and apply oils using different mediums to achieve different results; how to use colours in a more purposeful and selective way and understand how to glaze with colours to change and enhance hues.
Participants will have a greater confidence on how to start an oil painting and how to tackle each stage with skill and deliberation. This course is ideal to form the basis for a longer course such as the 6 month beginners or intermediate options on offer.
